Procurement Specialist Responsibilities

  • Analyze supply chain contracts and negotiate favorable terms with suppliers to maximize total value.
  • Develop and execute category and sourcing strategies that support business objectives, market conditions, and risk tolerance.
  • Lead sourcing events from start to finish, including building RFP, RFQ, and RFI packages, defining scope and evaluation criteria, and facilitating cross-functional reviews.
  • Draft, negotiate, and finalize contracts of varying complexity, and manage the full contract lifecycle, including renewals, amendments, and terminations.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships by leading performance reviews, addressing service or delivery gaps, and implementing corrective action plans.
  • Assess supplier capabilities, financial stability, and risk exposure during sourcing and ongoing performance management.
  • Maintain accurate supplier data and contract documentation in electronic systems to support governance, audit readiness, and internal controls.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders to understand demand and requirements, and influence decisions through data-driven insights, cost modeling, and risk analysis.
  • Support supplier onboarding and ensure compliance with procurement policies, safety standards, and operational requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and reduce total cost of ownership.

Procurement Specialist Qualifications

  • Five or more years of supply chain procurement, strategic sourcing, category management, and contracting experience, with a track record of managing RFx processes and negotiating complex agreements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business, finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent organizational and work management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and enterprise resource planning or procurement systems.
  • Preferred: Utility industry experience.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Oracle software.
  • Preferred: Project management experience.
