Vice President of Finance and Operations
Our client is seeking a Vice President of Finance and Operations to serve as a trusted strategic advisor and help shape the organization’s long-term financial and operational direction. The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking, collaborative leader who combines strong financial acumen with sound business judgment, curiosity, and the ability to leverage talented teams and subject-matter experts. This individual will translate complex financial and operational considerations into clear, actionable strategies while helping ensure the organization has the resources, infrastructure, and financial flexibility necessary to achieve its long-term objectives.

This role is on-site in Portland, Oregon.

Vice President of Finance and Operations Responsibilities

  • Lead long-term financial strategy, including multi-year planning, annual budgeting, forecasting, scenario modeling, and financial sustainability.
  • Advise executive leadership and organizational stakeholders on financial performance, resource allocation, major investments, and strategic priorities.
  • Develop financial strategies for significant organizational investments, evaluating funding approaches, liquidity requirements, cash flow, ongoing operating costs, and long-term financial implications.
  • Provide executive oversight of financial reporting, accounting integrity, internal controls, audits, cash management, and organizational assets while partnering with finance leadership responsible for day-to-day accounting activities.
  • Evaluate key business and financial drivers and incorporate them into short- and long-term financial planning.
  • Provide strategic oversight across finance and operations, including human resources, compensation, risk management, facilities planning, contracts, and external business partners.
  • Partner with operational leaders to evaluate major projects and ensure financial considerations are incorporated into planning and decision-making.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team while establishing clear accountability, effective processes, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen systems, processes, controls, and overall organizational effectiveness.

Vice President of Finance and Operations Qualifications

  • Significant senior-level strategic finance leadership experience, such as CFO, Vice President of Finance, senior Finance Director, or a comparable role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in multi-year financial planning, complex budgeting and forecasting, financial modeling, cash-flow and liquidity planning, and major investment analysis.
  • Strong understanding of accounting, financial statements, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit processes, with the ability to maintain executive-level oversight without needing to own transactional accounting.
  • Experience advising senior executives and organizational stakeholders, with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear recommendations and actionable strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating the financial impact of significant organizational initiatives, including both immediate funding requirements and longer-term operating implications.
  • Proven leadership experience, including developing teams, establishing accountability, and working effectively across multiple functional areas.
  • Strong business judgment, analytical ability, communication skills, and organizational perspective.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, or a related discipline required. Advanced degree or relevant professional credential preferred.
  • Experience spanning multiple areas of finance and operations, including areas such as organizational planning, risk management, human resources, compensation, facilities, or major investment initiatives, is preferred.
