Project Controller (Construction)
Our client is seeking a hands-on Controller to provide financial leadership within a growing, multi-entity organization. The ideal candidate is an adaptable, relationship-driven accounting leader who enjoys building processes, partnering closely with operations, and developing teams while remaining actively involved in the details. This role is well suited for an ambitious professional who embraces change, technology, and continuous improvement and is interested in growing alongside the organization.

This role is hybrid with occasional travel. Applicants must reside in the Salt Lake City, Utah; Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon; Vancouver, Washington; Phoenix, Arizona; or Denver, Colorado area.

Project Controller Responsibilities

• Lead accounting and financial reporting across multiple entities, including month-end and year-end close, financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Personally prepare and maintain WIP schedules, job costing, project cost accounting, and related reporting to identify margin trends, project risks, and performance opportunities.
• Partner closely with project managers and operational leaders to review project financials, improve cost visibility, and support profitability and informed decision-making.
• Guide and mentor accounting team members while strengthening financial processes, internal controls, reporting consistency, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Support ERP and technology initiatives, audits, compliance requirements, and the transition toward standardized accounting systems and processes across the organization.

Project Controller Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years of supervisory/leadership experience.
• Hands-on experience developing WIP reporting, job costing, and project cost accounting within a project-based environment.
• Accounting experience within commercial construction, mechanical contracting, HVAC/refrigeration, or a closely related industry, with commercial project experience strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, project-based financial reporting, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, with experience partnering directly with project and operations teams.
• Proven ability to work effectively across multiple accounting systems and evolving processes; NetSuite is preferred.

Salary: $140–$170K/year + Bonus. (DOE)
