Audit Manager (Construction)
Our client is seeking an experienced Audit Manager – Construction to lead complex assurance engagements and serve as a trusted advisor to clients in the construction industry. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with strategic thinking, polished client communication, and a collaborative leadership style, while effectively balancing multiple priorities and developing high-performing teams.

This role is a hybrid model in Portland, Oregon.

Audit Manager Responsibilities

  • Lead complex audit and assurance engagements for construction clients, ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality delivery in accordance with applicable accounting and auditing standards.
  • Provide technical guidance on construction accounting matters, including contract revenue recognition, job costing, WIP schedules, backlog, change orders, retainage, and contract assets and liabilities.
  • Manage engagement planning, budgets, staffing, billing, scope, timelines, and overall engagement economics across multiple concurrent client assignments.
  • Build trusted client relationships by communicating audit findings, addressing emerging issues, advising on industry developments, and identifying opportunities to improve financial and operational practices.
  • Lead, coach, and develop audit professionals while supporting performance management, succession planning, recruiting, practice growth, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Audit Manager Qualifications

  • Active CPA license and bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of recent public accounting assurance experience, including leadership of complex audit engagements.
  • Significant audit or review experience with construction contractors, including strong knowledge of contract revenue recognition, job-cost accounting, WIP/job schedules, and related construction accounting practices.
  • Proven people leadership experience, including managing other leaders, mentoring professionals, developing talent, and managing competing engagement priorities.
  • Excellent executive-level communication, relationship management, and problem-solving skills, with strong proficiency in audit technology, analytics tools, and relevant financial systems.

Salary: $135K-$185K/year. (DOE)
