Archivist (Part-Time)
Our client is seeking a Part-Time Archivist to help preserve, organize, and maintain valuable physical and digital collections that document an organization’s history, products, and corporate legacy. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented archival professional who is passionate about preservation, data integrity, and improving long-term access to historical materials while collaborating with cross-functional partners on collection stewardship and archival initiatives.

This role is on-site in Beaverton, Oregon working 16 hours a week; 2 days a week.

Archivist Responsibilities

  • Manage, organize, and maintain physical and digital archival collections while ensuring accurate documentation, accessibility, and adherence to professional archival standards.
  • Evaluate, process, catalog, and assess archival materials, implementing best practices for collection management, preservation, and long-term stewardship.
  • Maintain archival databases, collection management systems, and digital asset repositories while improving metadata quality, taxonomy, and collection accessibility.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to support archival projects, exhibitions, digital preservation initiatives, and collection management programs.
  • Assess collection materials for preservation needs, recommend appropriate conservation practices, and contribute to collection protection and disaster preparedness efforts.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance archival policies, procedures, documentation standards, and handling guidelines that support consistent collection stewardship.
  • Identify opportunities to improve archival workflows, technologies, and collection management processes through system enhancements and evolving best practices.
  • Provide guidance and training to internal stakeholders on archival procedures, collection handling, documentation standards, and preservation practices.

Archivist Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archival Studies, Library Science, History, Museum Studies, Information Science, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in archives, records management, museums, special collections, libraries, or a related archival environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing both physical and digital archival collections throughout their lifecycle.
  • Strong knowledge of archival principles, collection management methodologies, metadata standards, and digital preservation best practices.
  • Experience using archival databases, collection management systems, and digital asset management platforms; experience with MuseumPlus is a plus.
  • Experience developing or maintaining archival policies, documentation standards, workflows, or metadata frameworks preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple teams.
  • Ability to safely lift and move archival materials and storage containers weighing up to 30 pounds and work in archival storage environments that may contain dust or other allergens.
  • Flexibility to provide occasional on-site support or limited travel for collections, exhibitions, or archival initiatives as needed.

Compensation: Up to $59.15/hr. (DOE)
