Technical Project Manager
Our client is seeking a Technical Project Manager to lead the development of innovative connected products that combine firmware, software, and hardware technologies. This is an opportunity for a hands-on project leader who excels in startup-like environments, enjoys building structure from the ground up, and is passionate about bringing entirely new products to market. The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator who can align engineering, product, design, and testing teams while creating scalable processes that support rapid innovation.
This role is on-site in Beaverton, Oregon.
Technical Project Manager Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end execution of new product development initiatives involving firmware, software, and connected hardware technologies from concept through launch.
- Partner closely with firmware, hardware, software, product, design, QA, and technical leadership teams to drive execution, remove obstacles, and maintain project momentum.
- Build and refine project management processes, Agile practices, and development workflows in an evolving environment where established playbooks do not yet exist.
- Facilitate communication across cross-functional teams, ensuring technical and non-technical stakeholders remain aligned on priorities, risks, milestones, and deliverables.
- Drive sprint planning, backlog management, release planning, and project execution while adapting Agile methodologies to meet the needs of a growing product organization.
- Coordinate development and testing activities for firmware-enabled and hardware-integrated products to support successful product delivery.
- Manage project schedules, dependencies, risks, action items, and critical milestones across multiple technical workstreams.
- Maintain clear project documentation, status reporting, and communication plans to promote transparency and accountability.
- Utilize Jira and related project management tools to manage project tracking, backlog health, issue resolution, and delivery forecasting.
- Continuously improve team effectiveness by identifying opportunities to strengthen collaboration, communication, and execution practices.
Technical Project Manager Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 8+ years of technical project management experience supporting software and firmware development initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience leading new product development programs involving firmware-enabled products, embedded systems, connected devices, or hardware-integrated technologies.
- Experience operating successfully in startup, incubation, innovation, R&D, or other fast-paced environments where processes are created and refined alongside product development.
- Strong understanding of firmware development lifecycles and the ability to effectively partner with firmware engineering teams throughout product development.
- Proven ability to establish and improve Agile delivery processes, SDLC practices, and project management frameworks in evolving organizations.
- Experience working closely with cross-functional engineering, product management, UX, hardware, firmware, and quality assurance teams.
- Strong proficiency with Jira and Agile project management methodologies.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to bridge conversations between technical and non-technical teams while driving clear decisions and accountability.
- Self-directed, collaborative, and comfortable operating as a highly independent project leader within a small, rapidly evolving team.
- Experience supporting consumer electronics, connected devices, wearables, robotics, IoT, or other firmware-driven products is highly preferred.
- Previous experience within consumer products, footwear, apparel, sporting goods, or similar industries is a plus.
