Technical Project Manager
Our client is seeking a Technical Project Manager to lead the execution of innovative consumer product development initiatives that combine software, firmware, and connected technologies. This role is ideal for a hands-on project leader who thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments and enjoys creating structure where none exists. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, product, design, and testing teams to drive new product development efforts from concept through delivery while establishing scalable processes and ensuring cross-functional alignment.
This role is on-site in Beaverton, Oregon.
Technical Project Manager Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end execution of software, firmware, and connected product development initiatives, ensuring projects remain on schedule, within scope, and aligned with business objectives.
- Drive Agile delivery processes, including sprint planning, backlog prioritization, standups, retrospectives, and release readiness activities.
- Partner closely with software engineers, firmware engineers, product managers, UX designers, QA teams, and technical stakeholders to remove roadblocks and maintain development momentum.
- Establish, refine, and scale project management processes, workflows, and SDLC practices in environments where formal structures are still evolving.
- Coordinate testing activities for hardware-integrated consumer products, ensuring effective collaboration between development and validation teams.
- Manage project plans, dependencies, risks, action items, and key milestones across multiple workstreams.
- Facilitate cross-functional decision-making by clarifying requirements, identifying gaps, and driving alignment among technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Maintain project documentation, reporting, and communication plans to ensure transparency and accountability across teams.
- Utilize Jira and related project management tools to manage work intake, backlog health, issue tracking, and delivery forecasting.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance team efficiency, communication, and execution practices.
Technical Project Manager Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 8+ years of experience managing complex software development projects, including experience supporting firmware development initiatives.
- Proven experience leading consumer product development programs involving web applications, mobile applications, connected devices, embedded systems, or firmware-enabled products.
- Strong Agile project management and Scrum leadership experience, including ownership of sprint planning, backlog management, and delivery execution.
- Demonstrated success implementing or improving SDLC processes for new product development initiatives.
- Experience working directly with cross-functional engineering, UX, product, QA, and technical leadership teams.
- Strong proficiency with Jira and Agile project management methodologies.
- Experience operating in startup, incubation, R&D, innovation, or rapidly changing product development environments.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable plans.
- Builder mindset with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach and the ability to create structure, ask thoughtful questions, and drive progress through ambiguity.
- Experience supporting firmware-driven consumer products, wearables, connected devices, robotics, or hardware-integrated technologies is highly preferred.
- Previous experience within the consumer products, footwear, apparel, sporting goods, or adjacent industries is a plus.
