Project Manager – Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
Our client is seeking a Project Manager – Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to support a large-scale, multi-year utility modernization program. This role will lead the planning and execution of complex AMI initiatives, coordinating across technical, operational, and business teams to ensure successful delivery of metering, network, and system integration efforts. The ideal candidate brings strong project management fundamentals, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a highly cross-functional environment.
This role is on-site in Portland, Oregon.
Project Manager Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end delivery of AMI-related projects and workstreams, managing scope, schedule, budget, risks, and dependencies.
- Serve as the central point of coordination across IT, field operations, meter services, customer operations, regulatory teams, and external vendors.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, milestones, and reporting using tools such as M365 Planner or similar platforms.
- Oversee vendor performance, including deliverables, service levels, and contract milestones related to metering hardware, communications networks, and system integrations.
- Coordinate field deployment activities including installation scheduling, testing, and cutover planning.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks and issues, ensuring timely escalation and resolution across technical and operational areas.
- Prepare and deliver clear status reports, dashboards, and executive-level updates to support program governance and decision-making.
- Facilitate cross-functional meetings and align stakeholders on priorities, timelines, and outcomes.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear business impacts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Support compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and cybersecurity policies, including documentation for audits or reporting.
- Contribute to program-level planning, sequencing, and coordination across multiple concurrent AMI initiatives.
- Drive change management and readiness efforts to support successful adoption across impacted teams.
Project Manager Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of project management experience delivering complex infrastructure, technology, or utility-related programs.
- Proven ability to manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience presenting to leadership and executive audiences.
- Demonstrated experience with risk, issue, and dependency management across multiple workstreams.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate, up-to-date project reporting.
- Experience working with vendors and supporting large-scale implementations or field deployment programs.
- Familiarity with AMI, smart grid technologies, or utility systems (e.g., metering, communications networks, or data systems) is preferred.
- Experience in a regulated environment is preferred but not required.
- PMP or similar project management certification is preferred.
Compensation: Up to $71.57/hr. (DOE)
