Certified Water Treatment Operator
Our client is seeking a Certified Water Treatment Operator to support the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of a municipal water treatment facility that provides safe, high-quality drinking water to the community. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional with strong technical aptitude, water treatment experience, and the ability to perform detailed calculations related to treatment processes and chemical dosing. The successful candidate will thrive in a rotating shift environment and demonstrate a commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
This role is on-site in the City of The Dalles, Oregon.
Certified Water Treatment Operator Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and adjust water treatment processes, equipment, and chemical feed systems to maintain water quality standards.
- Perform laboratory testing, data collection, calculations, and documentation to support treatment operations and regulatory compliance.
- Analyze water quality results and calculate chemical dosages, flow rates, and treatment adjustments using applied mathematics and operational data.
- Conduct routine inspections, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on treatment plant equipment and instrumentation.
- Maintain accurate operational records, logs, reports, and compliance documentation.
- Support inventory management of chemicals, supplies, and operational materials required for plant operations.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and established operating protocols while working independently and as part of a team.
- Operate company vehicles and travel between facilities or operational sites as needed.
- Assist with facility upkeep, grounds maintenance, and other operational support activities as assigned.
Certified Water Treatment Operator Qualifications
- Oregon Level I Water Treatment Operator Certification required at time of hire.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Water Treatment Operator or in a closely related water treatment environment.
- Strong mathematical skills with demonstrated experience performing chemical dosing calculations, flow calculations, and treatment process analysis.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Working knowledge of water treatment processes, water chemistry, laboratory testing procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Experience operating and maintaining pumps, valves, meters, chemical feed systems, and related treatment equipment.
- Proficiency using spreadsheets and computer software for operational tracking, reporting, and data analysis.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities in a plant operations environment.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate company vehicles safely.
- Ability to work rotating 12-hour day and night shifts, including weekends and holidays as scheduled.
- Ability to perform physical duties including climbing stairs and ladders, working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and lifting equipment or materials as needed.
Additional Information
- Initial training and onboarding will be conducted on a daytime schedule before transitioning to the assigned rotating shift.
- Shift differential compensation is available for eligible night-shift hours.
- Company vehicles are provided for travel between operational facilities and work sites.
Salary: $60K-$84K/year + night shift differential. (DOE)
