CNC Setup Technician / Swing Shift
Our client is seeking a CNC Setup Technician / Swing Shift to prepare CNC mills and/or lathes for accurate, efficient production. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented machining professional who is skilled in machine setups, tooling, workholding, and first-article verification and can effectively troubleshoot issues while supporting CNC operators on the production floor.

This role is on-site in Hillsboro, Oregon working Monday–Thursday from 4:15PM-2:45AM.

CNC Setup Technician Responsibilities

  • Set up CNC mills and/or lathes by installing tooling, fixtures, and workholding components and confirming the appropriate programs are ready for production.
  • Interpret blueprints, GD&T, setup documentation, and work instructions to determine machining and setup requirements.
  • Load and align material, establish machine and work offsets, and produce first-article parts to verify setup accuracy.
  • Verify CNC programs and perform minor G-code adjustments as needed to support safe, accurate, and efficient machining.
  • Inspect first-article and in-process components using precision measuring equipment to ensure dimensional and tolerance requirements are met.
  • Diagnose and resolve setup-related issues involving tooling, workholding, offsets, dimensional variation, and machine operation.
  • Support CNC operators following setup by communicating job requirements, answering technical questions, and ensuring an effective production handoff.
  • Maintain tooling, fixtures, and setup documentation while identifying opportunities to improve machining efficiency and repeatability.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Quality teams to troubleshoot machining challenges and support process improvements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while assisting with additional machining and production needs as required.

CNC Setup Technician Qualifications

  • 2–4+ years of CNC machining, machine setup, or closely related manufacturing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC tooling, workholding, machine offsets, setup procedures, and general machine operation.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, GD&T, setup sheets, and manufacturing instructions.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and height gauges.
  • Working knowledge of G-code and experience navigating CNC controls such as Fanuc, Siemens, Celos, or comparable systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while effectively collaborating with operators, Engineering, Quality, and other production personnel.
  • Strong communication skills, reliability, consistent attendance, and a dependable work ethic.
  • Ability to read and write in English to understand work instructions, safety information, and production documentation.

Compensation: $30-$35/hr + shift differential & Bonus. (DOE)
