CNC Mill Setup Machinist
Our client is seeking an experienced CNC Mill Setup Machinist who can independently take prototype and low-to-mid-volume jobs through setup, prove-out, troubleshooting, and production. This role requires strong hands-on machining judgment and the ability to move between multiple jobs and machines while maintaining throughput and quality. Programming capability is important; experience with hyperMILL is a plus, not a requirement.
This role is on-site in Wilsonville, Oregon working day shift from Monday-Friday.
CNC Mill Setup Machinist Responsibilities
- Program as applicable, set up, prove out, and operate 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC mills.
- Coordinate multiple setups and jobs in automated pallet-cell operations; prioritize work to minimize machine downtime.
- Select and adjust tooling, work offsets, cutter compensation, and machining parameters; diagnose process and machine issues.
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
- Inspect parts using precision measuring equipment and verify tight tolerances, including ±0.0005 in. when specified.
- Maintain accurate setup documentation, tooling information, and job status records.
- Ensure parts meet dimensional, cosmetic, and quality requirements; communicate issues promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe work area and contribute to continuous process improvement.
CNC Mill Setup Machinist Qualifications
- At least 5 years of hands-on CNC mill setup and operation experience.
- Ability to independently set up jobs, troubleshoot problems, and produce conforming parts.
- Strong blueprint reading, GD&T interpretation, and precision inspection skills.
- Working knowledge of cutting tools, machining strategies, materials, offsets, and process control.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently in a changing production environment.
Preferred
- 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining; complex aerospace or defense components.
- Automated pallet cells and multi-machine production.
- hyperMILL CAM programming; Fanuc and/or Siemens controls.
Compensation: $35-$50/hr. (DOE)
Benefits
Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) with 4% company match; paid time off and holidays; and profit sharing. Work in a modern shop with advanced machining and automation technology.
