CNC Setup Technician / Day Shift
Our client is seeking a CNC Setup Technician to prepare CNC mills and/or lathes for accurate and efficient production. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented machining professional who is confident with tooling, fixtures, offsets, and first-article verification and can work collaboratively with operators, Engineering, and Quality to keep production running smoothly.
This role is on-site in Hillsboro, Oregon working Monday–Thursday from 6AM-4:30PM.
CNC Setup Technician Responsibilities
- Set up CNC mills and/or lathes by installing and configuring tooling, fixtures, and workholding and confirming the appropriate programs are ready for production.
- Review blueprints, GD&T, setup documentation, and work instructions to determine machining requirements and ensure proper job preparation.
- Load and position materials, establish machine and work offsets, and produce first-article parts to verify setup accuracy before releasing jobs to production.
- Verify CNC programs and perform minor G-code adjustments as needed to support safe, accurate, and efficient machining.
- Inspect first-article and in-process components using precision measuring equipment to confirm dimensional and tolerance requirements.
- Diagnose and resolve setup-related issues involving tooling, workholding, machine offsets, tool wear, and dimensional variation.
- Support CNC operators during job transitions by communicating setup requirements, answering technical questions, and ensuring an effective handoff.
- Maintain tooling, fixtures, and setup records while identifying opportunities to improve machining efficiency, quality, and repeatability.
- Partner with Engineering and Quality personnel to troubleshoot machining challenges and support process improvements.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and assist with additional machining or production activities as needed.
CNC Setup Technician Qualifications
- 2–4+ years of CNC machining, machine setup, or closely related manufacturing experience.
- Strong working knowledge of CNC tooling, fixtures, workholding methods, offsets, and general machine operation.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, setup documentation, and manufacturing instructions.
- Proficiency with precision inspection equipment, including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and height gauges.
- Working knowledge of G-code and experience navigating CNC controls such as Fanuc, Siemens, Celos, or comparable systems.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with careful attention to dimensional accuracy and quality.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while effectively collaborating with operators, Engineering, Quality, and other production personnel.
- Strong communication, reliability, attendance, and organizational skills with a consistent commitment to safe and efficient work practices.
- Ability to read and understand written work instructions, technical documentation, and production-related materials.
Compensation: $30-$35/hr + Bonus. (DOE)
