Sr. Art Director – Retail Experience
Our client is seeking a Sr. Art Director – Retail Experience Design to lead the creative development of compelling, consumer-focused retail environments and brand experiences. This role is ideal for a highly conceptual and hands-on design leader who can translate brand stories into immersive physical and digital experiences while guiding multidisciplinary teams from early ideation through final execution.

This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.

Sr. Art Director Responsibilities

  • Lead the creative direction and development of retail storytelling, environmental graphics, displays, and immersive brand experiences from initial concept through final delivery.
  • Develop scalable design concepts and systems that create cohesive, engaging consumer experiences across a variety of retail environments and formats.
  • Translate strategic objectives and brand narratives into compelling visual concepts, presentations, storyboards, sketches, and production-ready design solutions.
  • Direct multiple concurrent design initiatives while maintaining creative quality, consistency, timelines, budgets, and overall project objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners, external agencies, vendors, and production teams to ensure creative intent is maintained throughout design development and implementation.
  • Provide creative direction, mentorship, and design feedback to junior designers while helping establish a high standard of design excellence across the team.
  • Work fluidly across graphic, environmental, spatial, fixture, material, print, interactive, and digital design disciplines to create holistic retail experiences.
  • Explore emerging technologies, cultural trends, art, and experience-design approaches to identify new opportunities for consumer engagement.
  • Present concepts and design recommendations to creative leaders and business partners, clearly communicating the strategy and rationale behind creative decisions.
  • Create and refine design standards, guidelines, and production assets that support consistent execution across retail programs.

Sr. Art Director Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional brand, retail, environmental, experiential, or related design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating sophisticated concept development, visual storytelling, and executed design work.
  • Strong experience developing retail environments, concepts, programs, or consumer experiences, with demonstrated expertise in retail storytelling and translating brand narratives into physical or digital experiences.
  • Proven art direction and creative leadership experience, including the ability to guide designers and multidisciplinary teams through concept development and execution.
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, along with strong Keynote presentation skills.
  • Strong conceptual and visual communication abilities, including sketching, storyboarding, ideation, graphic design, and the ability to clearly articulate design intent.
  • Ability to successfully lead multiple complex creative projects simultaneously while adapting to shifting priorities and maintaining a high level of design quality.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and collaboration skills, with the ability to communicate creative concepts effectively to senior stakeholders and cross-functional partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, environmental design, architecture, interior design, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
  • Experience with After Effects, Premiere, Miro, Figma, SketchUp, Unreal Engine, or similar creative and visualization tools is a plus.
  • International retail experience and experience working with large-scale consumer or lifestyle brands are beneficial but not required.
  • Portfolio Requirement: A portfolio demonstrating relevant retail, environmental, experiential, and/or brand storytelling work is required for consideration.

Compensation: Up to $63.33/hr. (DOE)
