Senior Accountant (Non-Profit)
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to provide hands-on accounting support within a nonprofit environment during a critical year-end and audit period. The ideal candidate is a resourceful, detail-oriented professional who can work independently, quickly investigate and resolve discrepancies, and comfortably shift between complex accounting responsibilities and day-to-day transactional work.
This role is a hybrid model in Portland, Oregon, with the ability to work from home 2 days per week.
Senior Accountant Responsibilities
- Perform high-volume bank, general ledger, and balance sheet reconciliations, researching and resolving discrepancies to maintain accurate financial records.
- Support nonprofit fund and revenue accounting activities, including tracking donor-restricted, board-designated, and permanently restricted funds.
- Support year-end close and external audit preparation by maintaining schedules, compiling supporting documentation, and fulfilling audit sample requests.
- Handle revenue and accounts receivable accounting, including cash receipts, deposits, journal entries, invoicing, and related transaction processing.
- Maintain fixed asset records and supporting accounting schedules while assisting with internal controls, reporting, and other Finance team priorities.
Senior Accountant Qualifications
- Strong nonprofit and fund accounting experience, including accounting for restricted funds.
- Significant experience performing bank, general ledger, and other complex account reconciliations, with a strong investigative and problem-solving approach.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with extensive progressively responsible accounting experience.
- Willingness to perform both senior-level accounting and hands-on transaction entry in a role with a roughly equal mix of each.
- Ability to learn new systems quickly and work independently in a fast-paced environment; MIP experience is highly preferred.
Compensation: $40-$45/hr. (DOE)
