Facilities Manager
Our client is seeking a hands-on and solutions-oriented Facilities Manager to oversee day-to-day building operations while leading a small, cross-functional team. This individual will balance strategic oversight with on-the-ground execution, translating facility issues into actionable plans and ensuring safe, efficient, and well-maintained environments. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and problem solver who can confidently coordinate across vendors, teams, and leadership while driving projects to completion.

This role is on-site in Portland, Oregon.

Facilities Manager Responsibilities

  • Own facilities operations from issue identification through resolution, translating problems into clearly defined scopes of work for vendors and contractors.
  • Lead and manage small-to-medium projects, including repairs, upgrades, and space modifications, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Oversee vendor relationships, contract work, and service delivery, ensuring alignment with safety, compliance, and organizational expectations.
  • Supervise and support a small facilities and services team, setting priorities, assigning work, and fostering a collaborative, service-oriented environment.
  • Ensure building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and security) are operational, compliant, and properly maintained.
  • Act as a key point of contact for facilities and security matters, communicating updates, risks, and timelines clearly to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts with internal teams to support operational needs, space planning, and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Maintain documentation, service records, and institutional knowledge related to facilities operations and projects.
  • Support emergency response efforts, incident resolution, and ongoing risk mitigation related to facilities and safety.

Facilities Manager Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in facilities management, building operations, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to manage projects, vendors, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of commercial building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supervising staff, with a hands-on and supportive leadership style.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess issues and drive practical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Experience coordinating with external contractors and service providers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business systems.
  • Ability to work onsite and respond to occasional after-hours needs, including emergencies or critical projects.
