Retail Merchandise Planner
Our client is seeking a Retail Merchandise Planner to support a dynamic planning organization focused on driving profitable growth through data-driven decision-making, inventory optimization, and cross-functional collaboration. This role will partner closely with merchandising, buying, and business teams to develop forecasts, evaluate performance, and deliver actionable insights that support seasonal and in-season business strategies. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, organized, and comfortable balancing independent work with collaboration across multiple stakeholders.
This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.
Retail Merchandise Planner Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain sales, inventory, and assortment plans that support financial objectives and consumer-focused product strategies.
- Lead weekly business reviews, buyer reviews, and ongoing planning processes by analyzing performance trends and identifying opportunities and risks.
- Forecast sales, inventory, and product demand across multiple time horizons, providing recommendations to improve business outcomes.
- Translate data from multiple sources into clear, actionable insights and communicate recommendations to cross-functional partners and leadership.
- Manage and enhance reporting tools, dashboards, and planning resources that support decision-making across the planning team.
- Monitor forecast accuracy and variance trends, proactively identifying drivers and recommending corrective actions.
- Support pricing, markdown, and inventory management initiatives to maximize profitability and optimize product performance.
- Partner with merchandising, buying, and operational teams to align product strategies with financial plans and inventory goals.
- Manage product lifecycle activities, including inventory aging, closeout strategies, and seasonal transitions.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives by organizing complex information and creating scalable, repeatable planning workflows.
Retail Merchandise Planner Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Merchandising, Economics, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of professional experience in retail planning, merchandise planning, assortment planning, inventory management, merchandising, or a related analytical function.
- Demonstrated experience supporting weekly business reviews, buyer reviews, forecasting activities, and in-season planning processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, data analysis, reporting, and financial modeling.
- Strong analytical abilities with experience manipulating, interpreting, and synthesizing large datasets into actionable business insights.
- Experience using data visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.
- Proven ability to organize information from multiple stakeholders and establish efficient, repeatable processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, and drive projects forward with limited direction.
- Experience in a retail, consumer products, or direct-to-consumer environment is preferred.
- Previous experience supporting large-scale retail planning organizations or familiarity with enterprise retail planning systems is highly preferred.
Compensation: Up to $42.25/hr. (DOE)
