Process and Automation Manufacturing Engineer
Our client is seeking an experienced Process and Automation Manufacturing Engineer to lead the development, qualification, and improvement of manufacturing processes and automated equipment within an electronics production environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who combines strong technical expertise with strategic thinking, using data, experimentation, and automation to improve quality, capacity, efficiency, and manufacturability.

This role is on-site in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Process and Automation Manufacturing Engineer Responsibilities

• Lead the development, optimization, and qualification of manufacturing processes and equipment supporting new and existing electronic products.
• Identify and implement automation, semi-automation, material handling, and equipment solutions that improve production efficiency, capacity, quality, and yield.
• Plan and execute experiments, including Design of Experiments (DOE), to troubleshoot issues, optimize processes, and establish reliable manufacturing parameters.
• Define technical requirements and specifications for manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, and automation systems.
• Evaluate, select, implement, and qualify new production equipment from initial concept through manufacturing readiness.
• Develop and execute equipment and process validation plans, including installation, operational, and production qualification activities.
• Support the transition of new products and platforms from development into manufacturing, ensuring product designs are compatible with scalable production processes.
• Establish process controls, operating procedures, technical documentation, and manufacturing requirements to support consistent production performance.
• Integrate manufacturing equipment with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and related interfaces to improve production visibility and performance reporting.
• Model manufacturing workflows and analyze equipment and process performance to identify opportunities for improved throughput and utilization.
• Partner with internal teams, suppliers, and other stakeholders on product development, manufacturing strategy, equipment roadmaps, and process improvement initiatives.
• Lead technical efforts involving complex or business-critical manufacturing processes while developing innovative solutions that support long-term operational objectives.

Process and Automation Manufacturing Engineer Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience within electronics manufacturing; surface-mount technology (SMT) experience is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience implementing, qualifying, troubleshooting, and supporting automated assembly or manufacturing equipment.
• Strong knowledge of statistical problem-solving and process optimization techniques, including Design of Experiments (DOE).
• Working knowledge of materials, equipment, and manufacturing methods commonly used in electronics production.
• Experience developing equipment specifications, machine programs, qualification procedures, operating requirements, and standard operating procedures.
• Proven ability to identify automation and equipment solutions that improve manufacturing efficiency, capacity, quality, or yield.
• Project management experience, including developing project plans, coordinating technical activities, and driving initiatives through completion.
• Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex manufacturing and process challenges.
• Ability to develop technical recommendations and effectively present proposals, findings, and solutions to peers and leadership.
• Experience contributing to manufacturing strategy, equipment planning, and process or technology roadmaps.
• Strong documentation skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with employees, technical partners, and stakeholders across organizational levels.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally on an occasional basis, generally less than 5%.

Salary: $120K-$130K/year + Bonus. (DOE)
