Director of Finance and Operations
Our non-profit client is seeking a Director of Finance and Operations to lead the financial health and operations of a mission-driven nonprofit organization. The ideal candidate is a humble, collaborative, and motivated people leader who stays calm under pressure and can make finance accessible to colleagues without financial backgrounds.

This role is based in SW Portland, Oregon working 4 days per week.

Director of Finance and Operations Responsibilities

  • Lead the Finance Department, supervise finance staff, and manage daily financial operations and internal controls, including reconciliations, expenditure authorizations, and journal entry review.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP financial statements and lead the organization-wide annual budget, cash flow, and forecasting processes.
  • Oversee complex fund accounting across 8+ distinct program types and dozens of federal, government, and other funding sources, ensuring donor and grant compliance.
  • Coordinate all audits, including the single audit and funder-required audits, and maintain the purchasing and finance and accounting policies and manuals.
  • Manage business operations, including risk and insurance, contract and MOU review, regulatory and tax-exemption filings, payroll and benefits compliance, Board committee support, and collaboration on facilities and administrative functions.

Director of Finance and Operations Qualifications

  • Complex nonprofit fund accounting experience across multiple programs and dozens of funding sources, with strong knowledge of GAAP.
  • Federal funding and single audit experience, plus 5+ years managing nonprofit finances, including government grants.
  • 2+ years of nonprofit leadership experience, with a solid understanding of 501(c)(3) accounting and the rules governing nonprofits.
  • Proven skill in forecasting, budgeting, and cost control, along with experience designing or improving operational systems and workflows.
  • MIP experience strongly preferred (or NetSuite, Financial Edge, Sage Intacct, or similar with evidence of learning systems quickly) and proficiency in Microsoft Office 365; CPA, MBA, or related degree preferred; must be comfortable working in the office Monday through Thursday.

Salary: $90K-$95K/year. (DOE)
