CNC Laser Programmer
Our client is seeking a skilled CNC Laser Programmer to develop efficient, accurate programs for sheet metal laser cutting and combination punch/laser equipment. This role works closely with production, engineering, quality, and other internal teams to improve material utilization, support manufacturing needs, troubleshoot programming issues, and maintain consistent product quality.

This role is on-site in Hillsboro, Oregon working Monday–Friday from 8AM-4:30PM.

CNC Laser Programmer Responsibilities

  • Develop CNC programs and optimized nests for laser cutting and punch/laser equipment using customer drawings, CAD files, and 3D models.
  • Create, revise, and optimize machine programs using SolidWorks, SigmaNEST, and other CAD/CAM programming tools.
  • Review blueprints, technical drawings, models, and specifications to determine appropriate fabrication methods and programming requirements.
  • Generate flat patterns, tool paths, and nesting layouts that improve material yield, reduce scrap, and maximize machine productivity.
  • Determine appropriate tooling, cutting conditions, and machine parameters based on material type, thickness, part geometry, and production requirements.
  • Verify programs for accuracy, manufacturability, quality, and safe operation before releasing them to production.
  • Troubleshoot programming, nesting, machine, and part-quality issues in partnership with operators, engineering, and quality personnel.
  • Prepare and maintain setup instructions, tooling information, program files, and related manufacturing documentation with appropriate revision control.
  • Partner with production, engineering, quality, sales, purchasing, and other teams to resolve manufacturing challenges and support workflow requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, material utilization, programming methods, and overall manufacturing efficiency.
  • Support estimating and quoting activities by providing expected setup times, production run times, material usage, and manufacturability input.
  • Assist with equipment setup and other production-floor activities as needed to support manufacturing operations.

CNC Laser Programmer Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of hands-on CNC laser programming experience in a sheet metal or fabrication environment.
  • At least 2 years of experience using SolidWorks for manufacturing or fabrication applications.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication, laser cutting processes, flat pattern development, and nesting techniques.
  • Experience developing programs and nests for CNC laser cutting equipment; familiarity with Bystronic and/or Amada systems is strongly preferred.
  • Experience programming combination punch/laser equipment, particularly Amada systems, is preferred.
  • Proficiency with SigmaNEST or comparable CAD/CAM nesting and programming software is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, customer specifications, DXF files, STP files, and other technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of tooling selection, cutting parameters, material characteristics, and machine settings used in sheet metal manufacturing.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify programming or production issues and implement effective corrections.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate programs, setup documentation, and revision-controlled manufacturing records.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across engineering, production, quality, sales, purchasing, and machine operations.
