Director of Maintenance Operations
Our client is seeking a Director of Maintenance Operations to lead and elevate a growing maintenance organization focused on operational excellence, team development, and exceptional customer service. This leadership role is ideal for someone with a strong construction or maintenance management background who thrives on building high-performing teams, improving operational processes, and driving measurable results. The successful candidate will foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration while ensuring maintenance operations are delivered efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.
This role is on-site in Vancouver, Washington.
Director of Maintenance Operations Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a maintenance operations team, creating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee daily maintenance operations, ensuring work is completed efficiently, on schedule, and in alignment with established quality standards and performance goals.
- Drive operational metrics related to response times, technician productivity, turnaround times, customer satisfaction, quality, and overall team performance.
- Manage workforce planning, staffing, recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance management, including hiring additional maintenance personnel to support business growth.
- Establish maintenance schedules, prioritize workloads, and optimize technician utilization to maximize operational efficiency.
- Provide leadership for complex maintenance issues, customer concerns, and operational challenges while delivering thoughtful, solution-oriented resolutions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and contractors, including vendor selection, performance evaluations, onboarding, and ongoing partnership management.
- Ensure maintenance work complies with applicable safety regulations, licensing requirements, certifications, and company standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional leadership to support financial objectives, operational planning, budgeting, and long-term business growth initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and technology that increase efficiency, enhance service delivery, and support organizational scalability.
- Monitor maintenance costs, review estimates, and partner with internal teams to support informed repair decisions and cost-effective project execution.
- Champion a values-driven culture by modeling professionalism, ownership, teamwork, respect, and exceptional customer service in every interaction.
Director of Maintenance Operations Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience managing maintenance, construction, facilities, field service, or related operational teams.
- Demonstrated success leading supervisors, technicians, or field personnel while building engaged, high-performing teams.
- Strong background in maintenance operations, construction management, project management, or a similar operational environment.
- Experience developing operational processes, improving team performance, and driving measurable business results through key performance indicators.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong leadership, coaching, conflict resolution, and employee development abilities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners.
- Experience managing vendor relationships, contractor performance, and service quality expectations.
- Strong financial acumen with experience reviewing budgets, maintenance costs, estimates, and operational reporting.
- Comfortable learning and utilizing business systems, scheduling software, and operational technology platforms.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to identify process improvements and implement scalable operational solutions.
- Professional, adaptable, and customer-focused with a commitment to delivering exceptional service and fostering a positive, values-driven workplace.
