This role is fully remote. Applicants must reside in Oregon, Washington, Utah, Idaho, North Dakota, or Arkansas.
Apache Tomcat Administrator Responsibilities
- Maintain and support Apache Tomcat environments, along with Apache HTTPD web servers and MQ messaging platforms.
- Install, configure, upgrade, and patch application platform software to support business needs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve platform issues quickly, taking ownership from first report through final fix.
- Monitor and tune system performance to keep applications stable and efficient.
- Use Ansible to support configuration and automation of platform environments.
- Manage SSL certificates and related security configurations.
- Design standard configurations and architectures, and help evaluate and select software product standards.
- Partner with application, network, and other technical teams to resolve issues and support projects.
- Work with vendors to resolve product problems and drive them to timely resolution.
- Plan and document small to large product upgrades, and maintain current administration and support documentation.
- Review the existing environment to identify gaps and recommend improvements.
- Provide work estimates, regular status updates, and time tracking, and take part in team meetings.
- Share technical knowledge to strengthen the team and help meet industry standards.
Apache Tomcat Administrator Qualifications
- Hands-on experience administering Apache Tomcat and Apache HTTPD servers, including at least 1 year with Tomcat and MQ (a basic working knowledge of MQ is acceptable).
- At least 3 years of experience supporting applications in a multi-platform environment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across web servers, application servers, and messaging platforms.
- Solid understanding of SSL and secure server configuration.
- Working knowledge of Ansible for configuration and automation.
- Understanding of how applications interact with infrastructure, including firewalls, load balancers, and perimeter network zones.
- Experience translating business needs into technical solutions, with a track record of developing product standards and standard configurations.
- Experience collaborating with vendors and other technical teams to resolve product issues.
- Ability to plan and document product upgrades, from small updates to large projects.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction while also welcoming guidance from others.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with clients, coworkers, and management.
- Engineering or technical background. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred, though additional experience can substitute for education.
