Image Service Center Representative
Our client is seeking an Image Service Center Representative to join their radiology support team in a Monday through Friday, day-shift role with several schedule options. In this position, you will help physicians, technologists, and patients retrieve, file, and share medical images, and you will manage the exchange of imaging with outside facilities.
This role is on-site in Boston Massachusetts.
Available Shifts (Monday-Friday):
- 7AM-3:30PM
- 8:30AM-5PM
- 11AM-7:30PM
Image Service Center Representative Responsibilities
- Receive imaging exams from outside facilities through an electronic portal and in person, then upload them into the PACS so radiologists and providers can use them for comparison and secondary reads.
- Identify new studies, retrieve prior exams, and make them available to radiologists for interpretation without delay.
- Work closely with radiologists to make sure they have the images they need to complete their reads.
- Process requests from the emergency, intensive care, trauma, surgical planning, inpatient, and outpatient areas, helping to speed up exam creation and avoid unnecessary repeat imaging.
- Locate images by contacting outside facilities or requesting delivery from an off-site film storage location.
- Create CDs and DVDs for patients, clinics, conferences, and research, applying identification labels and verifying two patient identifiers before releasing discs.
- Deliver, hand out, or mail discs and reports as requested.
- Navigate multiple systems to gather patient information and prior exams, including Epic, Sectra, and PowerScribe.
- Create reference-only and secondary consult orders in the radiology information system so outside images can be attached.
- Forward finalized radiology reports to the appropriate department or person, and mail reports to outside ordering providers.
- Electronically file imaging and reports, and return images to their original source according to policy.
- Pull and discard inactive files from storage following established procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Answer phones, route calls, and record and relay messages.
- Operate a printer to produce reports as needed.
- Perform general clerical duties, and provide coverage in other areas, including the breast imaging film library, as needed.
- Complete annual department and organizational competencies on time.
- Follow all standards for patient privacy, infection control, safety, and professional conduct.
Image Service Center Representative Qualifications
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with physicians, staff, and patients.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced medical setting where timely image delivery directly supports patient care.
- Solid computer skills, with the ability to learn and move between multiple software systems.
- Ability to read, write, and accurately retrieve, file, and process films, discs, and reports.
- Attention to detail, especially when verifying patient identity and handling confidential information.
- High school diploma or GED.
- No prior experience or certifications required. About one month of on-the-job training is provided to learn department policies and procedures.
