Research Assistant
Our client is seeking a Research Assistant to support human-subject research focused on understanding perception, cognition, and human performance. This role will work closely with an experienced research team to execute studies, interact directly with participants, operate neuroimaging and physiological research equipment, and support accurate data collection and preliminary analysis. The ideal candidate is personable, highly organized, technically capable, and comfortable working independently within an evolving research environment.

This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.

Research Assistant Responsibilities

• Execute human-subject research studies according to established protocols, working directly with participants throughout study sessions.
• Prepare participants for research activities, including applying and operating neuroimaging or physiological measurement equipment such as EEG systems.
• Set up, calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot research equipment while monitoring data quality during study sessions.
• Collect, organize, label, store, and maintain physiological, behavioral, and participant research data in accordance with established procedures.
• Support preliminary data cleaning, processing, visualization, quality checks, and basic research analysis under the direction of senior researchers.
• Prepare research spaces, equipment, and study materials prior to participant sessions and ensure resources are ready for data collection.
• Guide participants through study procedures, answer questions, monitor their comfort, and support completion of required research documentation.
• Maintain accurate study records while protecting participant confidentiality and supporting overall data integrity.
• Collaborate closely with researchers and other team members to troubleshoot study needs and ensure research activities are completed successfully.
• Support research investigating relationships between human perception, physiological responses, product experiences, and performance outcomes.
• Participate in occasional domestic travel as needed, anticipated to be limited to approximately one to two trips.

Research Assistant Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience or a closely related discipline and at least 4 years of relevant research experience, or a Master’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience. A Master’s degree in Neuroscience is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience executing or supporting human-subject research, including direct interaction with study participants.
• Experience using neuroimaging, neurophysiological, cognitive, sensory, or related research technologies with human participants.
• Familiarity with EEG research is strongly preferred; experience with fNIRS or similar physiological measurement technologies is also beneficial.
• Ability to perform basic research analysis, data cleaning, processing, visualization, and quality-control activities.
• Familiarity with research and analytical tools such as MATLAB, Python, R, Excel, or comparable platforms.
• Understanding of informed consent, participant confidentiality, research documentation, and human-subject study procedures.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to create a positive and professional participant experience.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to consistently follow established research protocols.
• Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in situations involving ambiguity.
• Experience supporting research involving athletes, human performance, or sensory perception is a plus.
• Strong technical aptitude with the ability to identify and troubleshoot routine equipment or data-collection issues.

Compensation: Up to $33.33/hr. (DOE)
