Commercial HVAC/R Service Manager
Our client is seeking a Commercial HVAC/R Service Manager to lead, strengthen, and grow a commercial service operation. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, growth-minded leader who combines strong HVAC/R service expertise with business acumen, team development, and customer relationship skills to build a high-performing and profitable service organization.
This role is on-site in Vancouver, Washington.
Commercial HVAC/R Service Manager Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, recruit, and develop commercial HVAC/R technicians, dispatchers, and service support staff while establishing clear expectations around safety, quality, productivity, accountability, and customer service.
- Drive growth of the commercial service business by developing new customer relationships, expanding existing accounts, and increasing preventive maintenance agreements and recurring service revenue.
- Oversee daily service operations, including scheduling, dispatch, field productivity, customer communication, estimating, quoting, billing, and overall service delivery.
- Own departmental financial performance by managing budgets, margins, pricing strategies, labor utilization, and other operational KPIs while identifying opportunities to improve profitability.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with commercial property owners, facility leaders, contractors, property managers, vendors, and other key industry partners.
- Monitor service performance metrics, including revenue, gross margin, technician utilization, billable efficiency, callbacks, productivity, and customer retention.
- Identify operational gaps and implement scalable processes that improve efficiency, service quality, customer satisfaction, and financial results.
- Prepare, present, negotiate, and close commercial HVAC/R service opportunities while ensuring pricing and scope support business objectives.
- Partner with senior leadership to establish service department budgets, growth targets, staffing plans, and longer-term strategic priorities.
- Develop a strong technician pipeline and future service leaders to support continued expansion of the commercial service organization.
Commercial HVAC/R Service Manager Qualifications
- 8+ years of commercial HVAC/R, mechanical service, or closely related industry experience, including 5+ years in service leadership or management.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing service teams while growing revenue, strengthening customer relationships, and improving operational profitability.
- Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC/R service operations, including preventive maintenance, field service, dispatch, estimating, quoting, service agreements, and recurring revenue programs.
- Experience managing departmental financial performance, including P&L responsibility, budgets, gross margins, labor productivity, pricing, and operational KPIs.
- Strong business development and relationship-building capabilities, with an established network of commercial customers, technicians, vendors, or industry contacts highly valued.
- Proven ability to recruit, retain, coach, and develop experienced service technicians and emerging leaders.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance customer needs and business objectives.
- Experience working with service management, dispatch, ERP, or field-service platforms, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with commercial refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, kitchen equipment, or oversight of multiple mechanical service disciplines is preferred.
- Knowledge of Oregon and Washington commercial HVAC/R or electrical requirements, experience scaling a service organization, and a degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline are preferred.
Salary: $140K/year + Bonus. (DOE)
