This individual will be detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality and reliability. The ideal candidate brings strong troubleshooting skills, a disciplined approach to documentation, and the confidence to communicate findings and escalate concerns when necessary.
This role is fully on-site in Dayton, Ohio.
Hardware Test Engineer Responsibilities
- Independently execute hardware validation and reliability testing, including vibration, environmental, and stress-related test activities following established procedures and training.
- Prepare and configure test setups by assembling fixtures, creating wiring harnesses, operating laboratory equipment, and running test scripts to support validation efforts.
- Accurately capture, maintain, and organize test data, records, and project documentation to ensure traceability and data integrity throughout the testing lifecycle.
- Identify, document, and communicate product issues, anomalies, and test failures, escalating concerns constructively to validation engineers and project stakeholders as appropriate.
- Utilize workflow and issue-tracking tools to monitor testing activities, support project progress, and collaborate with cross-functional teams on corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support the maintenance and organization of laboratory equipment and infrastructure to promote efficient and safe testing operations.
- Participate in occasional travel, approximately 10%, as needed to support testing activities and project objectives.
Hardware Test Engineer Qualifications
- Three or more years of experience working in a hardware test laboratory, validation environment, or similar technical setting.
- Demonstrated ability to execute test procedures independently, including fixture setup, harness preparation, and operation of automated or scripted test processes.
- Hands-on experience using common electronic test equipment, such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and related laboratory instrumentation.
- Experience developing, executing, or supporting Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) activities and maintaining thorough test documentation.
- Strong attention to detail with a proven ability to maintain accurate records, manage test data, and keep project information current.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues effectively and communicate technical findings clearly to engineers and cross-functional partners.
- Experience working with environmental chambers, data acquisition systems, or similar validation tools is preferred.
- Familiarity with industry testing standards and protocols, such as environmental or vehicle electronics standards, is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with electronics assembly, soldering, or related laboratory support activities is preferred.
