Principal IC Design Engineer, Analog
Our client is seeking a Principal IC Design Engineer, Analog to lead the design and development of highly reliable, ultra-low-power integrated circuits used in safety-critical applications. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an experienced engineer who thrives in complex analog and mixed-signal design environments, enjoys solving challenging power and performance constraints, and can collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders to transform evolving requirements into innovative silicon solutions. The ideal candidate brings deep transistor-level design expertise, a strong track record of successful ASIC development, and the ability to influence architecture and design decisions throughout the product lifecycle.

This role is on-site in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Principal IC Design Engineer, Analog Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, integration, and verification of ultra-low-power analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits from concept through production release.
  • Own transistor-level design of critical analog and mixed-signal circuit blocks, including amplifiers, data converters, voltage/current references, power management circuits, oscillators, and related functions.
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders and system-level engineering teams to define requirements, evaluate design tradeoffs, and develop innovative solutions within strict power, performance, and reliability constraints.
  • Drive all phases of the ASIC development lifecycle, including specification development, circuit simulation, design reviews, tapeout, silicon validation, characterization, and production support.
  • Utilize industry-standard CAD and simulation tools to perform circuit design, verification, corner analysis, Monte Carlo analysis, and design-for-test activities.
  • Collaborate with layout, test, manufacturing, quality, and reliability teams to ensure robust, production-ready silicon implementations.
  • Develop behavioral models and support system-level verification activities for complex mixed-signal designs.
  • Lead laboratory validation, characterization, debugging, and failure analysis efforts for pre-silicon and post-silicon verification.
  • Provide technical mentorship and thought leadership while helping establish best practices for analog and mixed-signal design methodologies.
  • Contribute to long-term technology strategy, innovation initiatives, and next-generation product development efforts.

Principal IC Design Engineer, Analog Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in analog and mixed-signal IC design with demonstrated ownership of complex ASIC developments through successful silicon release.
  • Expert-level analog IC design experience at the transistor level, including deep knowledge of CMOS processes, device physics, and low-power design techniques.
  • Extensive experience designing analog and mixed-signal building blocks such as operational amplifiers, comparators, ADCs, DACs, voltage/current references, switched-capacitor circuits, oscillators, and power management functions.
  • Proven experience working in low-power, battery-operated, safety-critical, or highly regulated product environments.
  • Strong proficiency with Cadence design and simulation tools, including Virtuoso and Spectre.
  • Hands-on experience with tapeout activities, silicon validation, lab characterization, debugging, and production support.
  • Strong understanding of circuit performance tradeoffs including noise, stability, feedback, power consumption, bandwidth, reliability, and process variation.
  • Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams and translating complex technical requirements into successful design solutions.
  • Preferred experience developing integrated circuits for medical devices, biomedical sensing, body-tissue interface applications, or other highly regulated industries requiring ultra-low-power operation.
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python, Tcl, Perl, Shell, MATLAB, or C/C++ is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated innovation through patents, publications, technical leadership, or significant industry contributions is preferred.
