Platform Development Manager
Our client is seeking a strategic and technically grounded Platform Development Manager to lead the evolution, reliability, and scalability of a business-critical cloud platform that supports real-time customer-facing services. This role is ideal for a collaborative technical leader who can bridge engineering and operations, mentor a growing team, and drive modern platform practices that improve uptime, delivery speed, and long-term system resilience.
This role is a hybrid model in Portland, Oregon.
Platform Development Manager Responsibilities
- Lead the strategy, reliability, and operational performance of a revenue-critical cloud-based production platform, ensuring high availability, resilience, and scalability.
- Partner closely with software engineering and product leadership to establish and mature DevOps best practices, including CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code, observability, incident response, and release management.
- Provide technical leadership and coaching to a small team of platform and engineering professionals, fostering accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Define and maintain platform architecture standards, deployment guardrails, and engineering best practices that enable teams to deliver software safely and efficiently.
- Translate business objectives into actionable platform initiatives, proactively identifying operational risks, architectural gaps, and opportunities to improve reliability, performance, and delivery velocity.
Platform Development Manager Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, infrastructure engineering, site reliability, systems architecture, or related technical leadership roles.
- 3+ years of people leadership experience, including mentoring or managing technical teams in a production SaaS or cloud-based environment.
- Strong hands-on background with Microsoft Azure infrastructure, including modern cloud architecture, automation, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Bicep.
- Demonstrated experience supporting high-availability production environments where uptime, system reliability, and rapid incident response are business-critical.
- Proven ability to partner effectively with software engineering, product, and business stakeholders while clearly communicating technical strategy, tradeoffs, and operational priorities.
Preferred:
- Experience supporting telecom, contact center, voice, communications, or other real-time service platforms.
- Familiarity with AWS in addition to Azure.
- Experience implementing or advancing SRE principles, monitoring frameworks, and platform observability practices.
- Background leading organizations through DevOps transformation or shifting from siloed infrastructure/operations models to modern platform engineering practices.
Salary: $150K-$180K/year. (DOE)
