Senior Developer
Our client is seeking a Senior Developer to provide senior-level application development expertise supporting the ongoing maintenance, enhancement, and modernization of a complex enterprise web application. This role will be responsible for developing and improving application functionality, resolving defects, addressing technical backlog items, and producing well-documented, thoroughly tested solutions. The ideal candidate will bring extensive Java/J2EE and IBM DB2 experience, recent state government development experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders in an Agile environment.
This role is fully remote.
Senior Developer Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, troubleshoot, and maintain a large-scale Java/J2EE application, including resolving defects, implementing enhancements, refactoring code, and addressing performance and maintenance needs.
- Complete application code changes involving database components, interfaces, batch processes, application modules, reporting functionality, and user interface improvements.
- Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into well-defined application solutions, technical designs, and development specifications.
- Develop and execute unit, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing to validate application changes and protect existing functionality.
- Manage development activities through Azure DevOps, including work items, source control, code commits, pull requests, issue tracking, and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate with product owners, technical architects, development leads, managers, and business subject matter experts to clarify requirements, identify dependencies, estimate effort, and establish delivery timelines.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum activities, including sprint planning, daily meetings, sprint reviews, status reporting, and demonstrations of working functionality.
- Document application enhancements, technical solutions, system dependencies, testing activities, and completed development work to maintain comprehensive system documentation.
- Evaluate impacted areas of the application and identify technical gaps, dependencies, risks, and considerations associated with proposed changes.
- Provide knowledge transfer, documentation, and technical guidance to existing development and support team members to enable ongoing application support.
Senior Developer Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional Java development experience.
- 10+ years of professional J2EE development experience.
- 10+ years of experience working with IBM DB2 UDB.
- 10+ years of experience using Eclipse in a professional software development environment.
- State government technology or application development experience within the past five years.
- Demonstrated expertise developing, troubleshooting, enhancing, and maintaining complex enterprise applications.
- Strong understanding of software development methodologies, coding standards, source control, configuration management, and structured code review processes.
- Experience performing unit, regression, integration, and end-to-end application testing.
- Experience with Azure DevOps or similar development lifecycle and issue-tracking tools.
- Experience producing functional and technical specifications and documenting application dependencies, database changes, and technical solutions.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, product owners, and subject matter experts.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent applicable experience.
Preferred:
- 1–3 years of eXPRS application development experience.
Compensation: $60-$70/hr. (DOE)
