Materials Designer
Our client is seeking a highly creative and collaborative Materials Designer to support the development of innovative, performance-driven product concepts within a global sport category. This individual will bring a strong balance of trend awareness, technical material knowledge, and storytelling ability to help shape seasonal product narratives and elevate the consumer experience.

This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.

Materials Designer Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of material concepts across seasonal product collections, including performance and lifestyle offerings.
• Partner closely with cross-functional teams including product design, color, graphics, development, and product management to bring cohesive design stories to life.
• Translate consumer insights, trend research, and sport culture into compelling material narratives and product solutions.
• Create detailed material specs, technical drawings, and tech packs to support development and manufacturing execution.
• Contribute to seasonal storytelling through the creation of material toolkits and design frameworks aligned to athlete and brand initiatives.
• Collaborate with development and manufacturing partners to ensure feasibility, quality, and innovation in material execution.
• Research and identify new materials, finishes, and processes to drive innovation and performance.

Materials Designer Qualifications

• 5–7 years of experience in materials design, with a strong preference for footwear; apparel or accessories experience may be considered.
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, with strong skills in technical drawing and visual communication.
• Solid understanding of material types including knits, wovens, synthetics, and molded or injected components.
• Proven ability to conduct and apply trend research to inform design direction and storytelling.
• Experience working in highly collaborative, cross-functional environments with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of product creation processes, including material development and manufacturing considerations.
• Bachelor’s degree in design or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with 3D visualization tools such as Adobe Substance or Vizcom is a plus.
• Passion for sport, particularly soccer, and an understanding of sport culture is highly desirable.
• Hands-on experience with material creation, prototyping, or manufacturing processes is a strong advantage.

Compensation: Up to $50/hr. (DOE)
