Manufacturing Systems Engineer
Our client is seeking a Manufacturing Systems Engineer to drive operational excellence across apparel manufacturing and quality systems. This role will focus on improving manufacturing performance, product quality, and process consistency through collaboration with cross-functional teams and external manufacturing partners. The ideal candidate brings deep garment industry expertise, strong engineering fundamentals, and a passion for continuous improvement within large-scale production environments.
This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.
Manufacturing Systems Engineer Responsibilities
- Lead initiatives focused on quality systems, lean manufacturing, industrial engineering, and garment engineering best practices.
- Partner with internal engineering, product development, and quality teams to support manufacturing strategy and operational goals.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts across manufacturing operations, emphasizing efficiency, consistency, and product integrity.
- Collaborate with external factory partners to improve manufacturing capabilities, production readiness, and process execution.
- Support issue management activities by reviewing, analyzing, and resolving product and manufacturing concerns.
- Develop and standardize manufacturing processes, engineering methods, and quality procedures across production environments.
- Utilize industrial engineering tools and methodologies to optimize labor efficiency, production flow, and factory capacity planning.
- Apply GSD (General Sewing Data) principles to analyze sewing operations and establish accurate production standards.
- Conduct audits, inspections, and product evaluations to support quality assurance and manufacturing performance goals.
- Partner with leadership teams to identify risks, implement corrective actions, and improve long-term manufacturing outcomes.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to support innovation and operational advancement.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration efforts while influencing manufacturing partners and stakeholders at multiple organizational levels.
Manufacturing Systems Engineer Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field required. Advanced degrees or certifications are preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing systems engineering, quality engineering, or related operational roles within the garment or apparel industry.
- Strong background in quality issue management and manufacturing process improvement.
- Proven experience implementing continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma.
- Strong understanding of apparel manufacturing technologies, factory operations, and production engineering principles.
- Proficiency with GSD (General Sewing Data) and experience with factory capacity planning and operational analysis.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and overall Microsoft Office proficiency required.
- Experience working with external manufacturing vendors or factory partners preferred.
- Product development experience and/or manufacturing excellence experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in process engineering, industrial engineering, or manufacturing data analysis is highly valued.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Prior experience supporting major global apparel or footwear brands is a plus.
- Results-oriented mindset with a commitment to quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Compensation: $Up to $56.67/hr. (DOE)
