Footwear Color Designer (Core Product Focus)
Our client is seeking a highly collaborative Footwear Color Designer who blends creativity, consumer insight, and technical execution to deliver impactful color strategies for core footwear product lines. This role is ideal for someone who understands how color drives emotional connection and product storytelling, while maintaining consistency and longevity beyond seasonal trends. The ideal candidate brings strong design instincts, clear narrative thinking, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.

This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.

Footwear Color Designer Responsibilities

• Develop and drive strategic color direction for core footwear products, focusing on timelessness, scalability, and alignment with established product lines.
• Build cohesive color palettes and narratives that connect to the target consumer, incorporating storytelling and purposeful inspiration.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners including product design, materials, graphics, development, and merchandising to ensure alignment from concept through production.
• Conduct research across sport, culture, art, and consumer behavior to inform color decisions and strengthen product narratives.
• Translate insights into clear, presentation-ready color concepts using digital design tools.
• Review and evaluate samples, ensuring color accuracy and resolving execution challenges throughout the development process.
• Support broader design initiatives by contributing color expertise across multiple projects when needed.
• Operate effectively in an iterative environment, navigating ambiguity, incorporating feedback, and meeting deadlines with strong attention to detail.

Footwear Color Designer Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in footwear color design or a related design discipline; ideally 5+ years of relevant design experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Design or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating color application, storytelling, and consumer-focused design thinking (required).
• Proven ability to create strategic, non-trend-driven color solutions for core or evergreen product lines.
• Understanding of how color influences consumer perception, emotion, and product storytelling.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams across design, product management, and development.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite; experience with Keynote or PowerPoint for presentations is a plus.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate design intent and influence stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet timelines in a fast-paced environment.
• Positive, team-oriented mindset with openness to feedback and diverse perspectives.
• Preferred: Experience working with large-scale or enterprise-level retail brands.

Compensation: Up to $40.67/hr. (DOE)
