Building Engineer
Our client is seeking a hands-on Building Engineer to support the daily operation, maintenance, and performance of a high-rise commercial property. This role is ideal for a mechanically inclined facilities professional who enjoys troubleshooting complex building systems, maintaining a safe and efficient environment, and providing responsive service to tenants and internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings strong commercial building experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work across multiple systems in a fast-paced property operations environment.
This role is onsite in Portland, Oregon.
Building Engineer Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on building systems including HVAC equipment, plumbing fixtures, lighting, and electrical components.
- Inspect, monitor, and maintain mechanical equipment such as heat pumps, fan coils, rooftop units, ventilation systems, motors, belts, and condensate systems.
- Conduct routine building rounds across mechanical rooms, rooftops, and common areas to identify operational issues and ensure optimal system performance.
- Complete assigned work orders, estimate materials and labor requirements, and perform maintenance tasks in accordance with established service standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, system performance, and completed work within a facility work order or CMMS system.
Building Engineer Qualifications
- Experience supporting commercial building operations, preferably within high-rise commercial properties.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve routine maintenance issues.
- Hands-on experience with building systems such as HVAC equipment, ventilation systems, and electrical components.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or digital work order tracking tools.
- Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to safely perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in mechanical spaces or on rooftops.
Salary: $65K-85K/year. (DOE)
