Business Operations & Analytics Manager
Our client is seeking a Business Operations & Analytics Manager to provide operational leadership and performance oversight within a fast-paced sterile processing and clinical support environment. This role will lead day-to-day operations, use data and performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities, and partner closely with clinical and operational stakeholders to ensure reliable service, regulatory compliance, and efficient use of resources.
This role is a hybrid model in Boston, Massachusetts.
Business Operations & Analytics Manager Responsibilities
- Lead daily sterile processing and clinical support operations, ensuring appropriate staffing, workflow, instrumentation availability, and service levels to meet procedural and patient care needs.
- Analyze operational, productivity, quality, staffing, and financial data to identify trends, address performance gaps, and implement measurable process improvements.
- Oversee supervisors and team members, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, coaching, scheduling, professional development, and employee relations activities.
- Monitor department performance and develop improvements to workflow, throughput, quality, inventory management, equipment utilization, and overall operational efficiency.
- Maintain compliance with applicable sterile processing, infection prevention, safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including established requirements for decontamination, high-level disinfection, sterilization, and equipment handling.
- Partner with surgical, nursing, procedural, and operational leaders to address instrumentation needs, service concerns, workflow challenges, and quality improvement opportunities.
- Manage staffing and labor utilization while monitoring supply expenses, budget performance, inventory requirements, equipment needs, and operational variances.
- Oversee quality assurance and quality control activities, using performance findings to strengthen processes, reduce risk, and maintain consistent service standards.
- Support inventory, instrumentation, equipment, repair, storage, and vendor-related processes to maintain appropriate availability and readiness across supported clinical areas.
- Establish clear performance expectations and communication practices while promoting accountability, responsiveness, collaboration, and continuous improvement throughout the department.
- Ensure employees receive required operational, safety, equipment, and compliance training and maintain appropriate documentation of competency and completion.
- Support department policies, procedures, projects, reporting, committees, and broader operational initiatives in partnership with organizational leadership.
Business Operations & Analytics Manager Qualifications
- At least 5 years of current experience within sterile processing, surgical services, an operating room environment, or a combination of related clinical operations experience.
- Previous supervisory or management experience within sterile processing is required, with demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage staffing, and improve operational performance.
- Strong knowledge of sterile processing practices, including decontamination, sterilization, high-level disinfection, infection prevention, instrumentation workflows, and equipment and supply management.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze operational and performance information, identify root causes, solve complex problems, and translate findings into practical process improvements.
- Working knowledge of applicable healthcare quality, safety, and sterile processing standards and the ability to maintain compliance in a highly regulated clinical environment.
- Strong leadership and people-management skills, including coaching, delegation, performance management, employee development, and communication across multiple levels of an organization.
- Experience managing labor, staffing, supplies, inventory, budgets, and other operational resources within a complex healthcare environment.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple competing demands, respond effectively to changing operational needs, and meet deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate with clinical leaders, physicians, operational teams, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or higher preferred.
- Current sterile processing certification or the ability to obtain an applicable certification within the required timeframe; qualifying clinical licensure may be accepted where applicable.
- Healthcare leadership certification is preferred, or the ability to obtain an applicable leadership credential after hire.
- Experience within a high-volume acute care or trauma environment is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn workforce management, inventory, instrumentation tracking, and other department-specific technology platforms.
