Senior Apparel Merchandising Manager
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Apparel Merchandising Manager to lead the strategy and execution of a high-profile kids apparel business within the North American marketplace. This role is ideal for a proactive, consumer-focused merchandising leader who can establish a clear product vision, guide a team through key seasonal milestones, and collaborate effectively across product, planning, and marketplace functions.
This role is on-site in Beaverton, Oregon.
Senior Apparel Merchandising Manager Responsibilities
- Lead the merchandising strategy and seasonal direction for a diverse kids apparel portfolio spanning multiple sports, consumer segments, and product categories.
- Manage, motivate, and provide strategic direction to a team of four, establishing priorities and maintaining strong execution during a period of transition.
- Drive seasonal merchandising activities from assortment and line planning through product readiness, go-to-market execution, and marketplace delivery.
- Partner closely with Product, Planning, Marketplace, and other cross-functional teams to develop assortments that balance consumer needs, business objectives, and market opportunities.
- Evaluate product, franchise, and category performance to identify opportunities, address risks, and inform product lifecycle and assortment decisions.
- Develop and communicate a compelling long-term vision for kids apparel while ensuring consistency across multiple seasons and product initiatives.
- Apply consumer insights, financial performance, and North American marketplace knowledge to guide merchandising decisions and business priorities.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and senior merchandising partner, communicating recommendations and business direction effectively to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
- Navigate changing priorities and ambiguous business challenges with sound judgment, proactive problem-solving, and timely decision-making.
- Support product creation and marketplace strategies that strengthen the overall assortment and position the business for future growth.
Senior Apparel Merchandising Manager Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive merchandising experience, with significant experience in apparel merchandising strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership and people management experience, including direct responsibility for leading, motivating, and developing a team.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Strong understanding of the North American consumer and marketplace, with the ability to translate market insights into merchandising and assortment strategies.
- Proven ability to lead complex seasonal merchandising processes, establish priorities, and make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to create and communicate a clear product and merchandising vision.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills, including experience working with senior-level stakeholders.
- Experience with kids apparel, sports apparel, athletic products, or related consumer product categories is highly preferred.
- Experience partnering with product creation teams and/or key marketplace accounts is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience with Keynote or similar presentation tools is beneficial.
- Previous experience within a large athletic, apparel, footwear, or consumer products organization is highly desirable.
Compensation: Up to $51.33/hr. (DOE)
