Machine Shop Supervisor
Our client is seeking a Machine Shop Supervisor to lead a skilled machining team while remaining actively involved in day-to-day manufacturing operations. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for driving productivity, supporting machinists with technical challenges, and fostering a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate combines strong CNC machining expertise with proven leadership experience and a passion for developing people and optimizing shop performance.
This role is on-site in Hubbard, Oregon working 6AM-2:30PM.
Machine Shop Supervisor Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and supervise a team of CNC machinists to achieve production, quality, and safety objectives while maintaining an efficient workflow.
- Provide hands-on technical support by assisting with machine setup, troubleshooting, programming, and complex machining challenges as needed.
- Develop employee schedules, assign work, and balance resources to maximize productivity and meet production deadlines.
- Monitor shop performance, identify opportunities for increased efficiency, and implement process improvements that reduce downtime and improve throughput.
- Recruit, interview, onboard, train, mentor, and develop machining personnel while fostering a collaborative and accountable team environment.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide ongoing coaching, and support employee growth through skill development and continuous feedback.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, maintenance, and production teams to resolve manufacturing issues and improve machining processes.
- Oversee machine setup, tooling, fixturing, maintenance coordination, and process documentation to ensure consistent, high-quality production.
- Monitor inventory levels for tooling, materials, and shop supplies to support uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, workplace safety requirements, and established manufacturing procedures while maintaining a clean and organized shop environment.
Machine Shop Supervisor Qualifications
- 5+ years of leadership or supervisory experience managing machinists or manufacturing personnel in a CNC machining environment.
- 5–10 years of hands-on machining experience operating mills, lathes, or other precision manufacturing equipment.
- Strong proficiency in CNC programming, machine setup, troubleshooting, and machining operations.
- Experience leading production teams, improving productivity, and driving operational performance in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, and develop machinists while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency is strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple production demands.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across production, engineering, quality, maintenance, and scheduling teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing software or ERP systems, along with a strong commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
Salary: $80K-$105K/year. (DOE)
