Retail Merchandise Planner & Buyer
Our client is seeking a Retail Merchandise Planner & Buyer who brings a strong balance of analytical thinking and consumer intuition to drive retail performance. This individual will play a key role in translating data into actionable merchandising strategies, optimizing assortments, and supporting in-season business decisions within a fast-paced retail environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and energized by using insights to influence product and inventory outcomes.
This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.
Retail Merchandise Planner & Buyer Responsibilities
- Analyze sales performance, inventory levels, and consumer trends to inform buying decisions and optimize assortment strategies.
- Translate high-level merchandising strategies into actionable in-season plans that drive revenue, margin, and inventory health.
- Manage key retail metrics such as sell-through, stock-to-sales ratios, inventory turn, and seasonal performance.
- Partner cross-functionally with planning, allocation, and merchandising teams to align on business priorities and execution.
- Support pricing, promotional strategies, and inventory management decisions based on real-time and historical data insights.
- Contribute to seasonal assortment planning, including product selection, forecasting, and buy reviews.
- Monitor market trends and consumer behavior to identify opportunities for growth and product optimization.
- Utilize internal systems and reporting tools to track performance, maintain data accuracy, and support business decisions.
Retail Merchandise Planner & Buyer Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in retail merchandising, buying, or planning with a strong focus on data-driven decision making.
- Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Business, Fashion, or a related field.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and comfort working with large datasets to derive insights and recommendations.
- Strong understanding of retail math and key performance indicators such as sell-through, inventory turn, and stock-to-sales.
- Demonstrated ability to balance analytical insights with a consumer-focused mindset.
- Experience working in a fast-paced retail or consumer products environment.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work across cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with merchandising or planning systems (experience with tools like JustEnough or similar platforms is a plus).
- Interest in consumer trends, retail innovation, and the evolving marketplace (apparel, footwear, or related industries preferred).
Compensation: Up to $32.67/hr. (DOE)
