Technical Apparel Designer – Pattern Engineering
Our client is seeking a Technical Apparel Designer – Pattern Engineering to support the development of innovative apparel products by owning fit, pattern execution, and construction integrity from concept through production. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams to translate design intent into commercially viable product, ensuring consistency, manufacturability, and product excellence. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with collaborative communication and a solutions-oriented mindset.
This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.
Technical Apparel Designer – Pattern Engineering Responsibilities
- Lead fit and pattern development for assigned styles, including pattern manipulation, evaluation, and refinement to achieve design and performance objectives.
- Facilitate and manage fit sessions, clearly communicating adjustments and technical decisions to internal partners and factory stakeholders.
- Create, update, and maintain detailed technical documentation, including tech packs, product specifications, and prototype notes.
- Identify construction, fit, or manufacturability risks and proactively drive resolutions to support development timelines and product integrity.
- Partner with design, product management, and sourcing teams to align technical execution with consumer, cost, and calendar requirements.
- Support prototyping and product validation activities, monitoring progress and addressing issues throughout the development lifecycle.
- Contribute to the establishment and enforcement of fit and construction standards to ensure consistency across product categories.
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, digital tools, and industry best practices that enhance product creation processes.
Technical Apparel Designer – Pattern Engineering Qualifications
- 5–8 years of experience in technical design, pattern engineering, or a closely related apparel development role.
- Strong expertise in fit, garment construction, and pattern manipulation within a commercial product environment.
- Ability to lead fit discussions and communicate technical changes effectively across cross-functional and vendor teams.
- Working knowledge of product lifecycle management (PLM) systems and development documentation workflows.
- Understanding of graphics as they relate to garment construction, placement, and product execution.
- Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with digital product creation or 3D design platforms (e.g., CLO 3D or similar) preferred.
- Degree in apparel design, technical design, textile science, or a related discipline preferred, though equivalent experience will be considered.
- Prior experience within large-scale or highly collaborative product organizations preferred.
- Demonstrated self-leadership, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to communicate effectively across teams.
Compensation: Up to $48/hr. (DOE)
