Server Administrator
Our client is seeking a Server Administrator (Level 4) to serve as a senior technical leader responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting complex enterprise infrastructure environments. This role will drive stability, scalability, and performance across critical systems while leading high-impact initiatives and mentoring technical team members.
This role is fully remote in Houston, Texas.
Server Administrator Responsibilities
- Lead the administration and optimization of enterprise server infrastructure, including directory services, virtualization platforms, messaging systems, databases, and collaboration tools.
- Oversee storage, backup, and disaster recovery systems to ensure data integrity, availability, and business continuity.
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues, providing expert-level troubleshooting and resolution.
- Drive end-to-end delivery of complex infrastructure projects, including planning, execution, and cross-functional coordination.
- Partner with business stakeholders and application teams to support and enhance line-of-business systems.
- Coordinate system upgrades, maintenance activities, and deployment efforts with internal teams and external vendors.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior and mid-level administrators.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging technologies to improve system performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide remote support as needed.
- Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
Server Administrator Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience supporting complex, enterprise-scale IT environments across infrastructure domains including compute, storage, networking, and applications.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and additional years of experience.
- Required certification in a systems or infrastructure discipline (e.g., MCSE, VCAP, RHCE, or equivalent).
- Deep expertise with enterprise operating systems and platforms, including Microsoft, VMware, and/or Linux in high-availability, high-performance environments.
- Strong experience administering Active Directory, messaging systems, collaboration platforms, and enterprise database environments (including SQL Server with HA/DR and ETL concepts).
- Hands-on experience with enterprise server hardware platforms (e.g., HPE, Dell, IBM) and large-scale infrastructure deployments.
- Advanced knowledge of networking concepts, including LAN/WAN, firewalls, VPNs, and secure connectivity architectures.
- Experience with enterprise storage technologies, including SAN (iSCSI and Fibre Channel), multi-pathing, replication, and storage array management.
- Expertise with backup and recovery solutions, including enterprise backup software, VTL, and tape-based systems.
- Familiarity with system monitoring and management tools (e.g., SCOM, SCCM or similar platforms).
- Strong understanding of encryption technologies, PKI infrastructure, and secure system design.
- Experience with scripting and automation using tools such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar.
- Demonstrated ability to produce clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with both technical teams and senior leadership.
- Experience working in highly regulated environments with adherence to strict quality and compliance standards.
- Eligibility to work within environments subject to U.S. government regulatory requirements.
Preferred:
- Experience supporting hybrid on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure environments.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft PKI implementations and authentication systems.
- Experience with virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments.
- Familiarity with multi-master replication technologies for file systems and databases.
- Experience with advanced storage solutions, including hardware security modules (HSMs) and storage-based replication.
- Exposure to high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
Salary: $124K-$150K/year. (DOE)
