Materials Developer
Our client is seeking a Materials Developer to support innovative product creation through material strategy, data-driven decision making, and cross-functional collaboration. This role sits at the intersection of design vision, technical execution, and commercial viability, helping translate concepts into production-ready outcomes. The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating complexity, partnering with diverse teams, and transforming information into actionable insights.
This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.
Materials Developer Responsibilities
- Translate design concepts and project briefs into physical or 3D material solutions that meet aesthetic, performance, and business objectives.
- Drive material readiness by coordinating development, sourcing, cost, quality, and sustainability considerations throughout the product lifecycle.
- Interpret, organize, and synthesize complex data to guide material selection, risk mitigation, and decision making.
- Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including design, engineering, development, and supply chain, to ensure alignment and on-time execution.
- Support commercialization efforts by ensuring materials, specifications, and documentation are complete and manufacturing-ready.
- Communicate technical information, constraints, and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proactively identify issues, evaluate alternatives, and contribute to resolution strategies that protect timelines and product integrity.
- Maintain accuracy and organization across material tracking systems, development tools, and project documentation.
Materials Developer Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred areas of study include Materials, Chemistry, Product Development, Engineering, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, or related disciplines.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a product creation, materials development, or manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of product creation workflows, including translating concepts into samples or prototypes.
- Strong ability to interpret, structure, and communicate complex data into clear, usable insights.
- Comfortable collaborating across multiple teams and working with partners from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
- Knowledge of material types, manufacturing processes, testing considerations, or product development principles is highly valued.
- Ability to evaluate design intent and recommend practical, performance-driven alternatives when needed.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced setting.
- Solid digital literacy, including proficiency with common productivity tools and material or product management systems.
- Effective communication and influencing skills, with the ability to present ideas and recommendations confidently.
Compensation: Up to $32/hr. (DOE)
