IT Systems Administrator / Systems Engineer
Our client is seeking an experienced IT Systems Administrator / Systems Engineer to take an immediate, hands-on role in strengthening and modernizing their infrastructure. This individual will be deeply involved in active projects from day one, supporting both cloud-based and on-prem environments, and contributing to technical decisions that improve reliability, security, and scalability across the organization.
This role is based in Wilsonville, Oregon.
IT Systems Administrator / Systems Engineer Responsibilities
- Lead and execute infrastructure initiatives focused on stabilizing, improving, and scaling core systems, with a strong emphasis on implementation and practical decision-making.
- Administer and support enterprise SaaS platforms and third-party applications, ensuring availability, performance, and secure access across the organization.
- Manage identity and access management solutions, including SSO, MFA, and SaaS integrations, to support a secure hybrid and remote workforce.
- Administer and maintain Windows-based server environments, including directory services, authentication, name resolution, and certificate management.
- Design, operate, and monitor on-premise infrastructure, including networking, virtualization, compute resources, and shared storage platforms.
- Implement and manage infrastructure security controls such as PKI, network access controls, and authentication mechanisms.
- Own backup, recovery, and business continuity processes, including documentation, testing, and alignment with internal policies.
- Develop clear operational processes and technical documentation to support adoption of new systems and technologies.
- Configure and maintain monitoring and management tools to proactively identify and resolve system issues.
- Provide advanced escalation support for complex system and infrastructure issues affecting users in distributed and global environments.
IT Systems Administrator / Systems Engineer Qualifications
- 4+ years of progressive experience in IT systems administration and systems engineering roles.
- Demonstrated experience implementing and improving infrastructure solutions rather than solely maintaining existing environments.
- Strong understanding of enterprise identity management, including Active Directory, cloud directory services, SAML-based providers, and automated provisioning using REST or SCIM.
- Hands-on experience with scripting or automation using tools such as PowerShell, shell scripting, Python, or similar languages.
- Solid background in enterprise security concepts, including certificates, encryption, and PKI-based authentication.
- Proven experience supporting networking, server administration, virtualization, and storage technologies in production environments.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and support Tier 2 or Tier 3 escalations using structured ticketing systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
- Experience working in regulated or audited environments, such as those aligned with ISO, SOC, SOX, or ITIL frameworks.
- Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Microsoft or infrastructure-related certifications are helpful but not required.
- IT service management certifications are considered a plus.
