Database Administrator
Our client is seeking a Database Administrator to support a data modernization initiative involving complex information across multiple databases, applications, and legacy systems. The ideal candidate is a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional who can investigate data structures, trace lineage, translate business requirements into technical mapping logic, and collaborate across technical and business teams to support accurate data conversion.
This role is a hybrid model in Portland, Oregon.
Database Administrator Responsibilities
- Analyze relational databases and source systems to understand tables, fields, keys, joins, dependencies, data types, business rules, and data lineage.
- Develop and maintain source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries, table inventories, schema documentation, transformation rules, and conversion specifications.
- Write SQL queries to research, profile, reconcile, and validate data while identifying gaps, inconsistencies, duplicates, and other data quality concerns.
- Partner with business stakeholders, database administrators, data engineers, application teams, developers, and testers to clarify data definitions, resolve mapping issues, and preserve data integrity throughout conversion activities.
- Support conversion planning, mock data loads, validation, troubleshooting, and issue resolution to ensure data is appropriately prepared for migration into a modernized database environment.
- Translate operational processes and business rules into technical mapping requirements, transformation logic, and validation criteria.
- Investigate complex or unclear data relationships across multiple systems and document assumptions, findings, risks, dependencies, and recommended remediation steps.
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for project teams by communicating source-system structures, data relationships, lineage, and potential conversion impacts to technical and nontechnical audiences.
Database Administrator Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of experience with relational databases, data analysis, data mapping, data conversion, schema analysis, or application data support.
- Strong SQL skills with demonstrated experience analyzing tables, fields, keys, joins, dependencies, relationships, and data quality across relational database environments.
- Hands-on experience developing source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries, table inventories, mapping workbooks, conversion specifications, or similar technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, schema design, data transformation, ingestion, lineage, and validation concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate complex data issues, identify patterns and inconsistencies, and independently drive detailed research through resolution.
- Strong communication, documentation, collaboration, and organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and proactively identify risks or blockers.
- Experience with cloud databases, AWS Glue, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, data integration platforms, or reporting and query tools is preferred.
- Experience supporting inspection, asset management, work management, field operations, correction, or utility-related data is preferred.
