Construction Inspector I
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and safety-focused Construction Inspector I who thrives in a field-based environment and brings a strong foundation in construction practices, inspection standards, and documentation. This individual will play a key role in ensuring quality, compliance, and safety across a variety of public works projects while partnering closely with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders.

This role is fully on-site in Portland, Oregon.

Construction Inspector I Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections on civil construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and project documents to understand scope and communicate expectations to contractors.
  • Monitor construction activities including pipelines, roadways, utilities, and structural elements for quality, alignment, grading, and material usage.
  • Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting work progress, methods, materials, and any issues or deviations.
  • Verify measurements, quantities, and installation practices to ensure accuracy and adherence to project standards.
  • Interpret plans, survey data, and field conditions to support construction accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with contractors and project teams to communicate changes, clarify requirements, and address field challenges.
  • Support material testing, inspections, and final walkthroughs to confirm project completion and compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards for workers, contractors, and the public throughout all phases of construction.

Construction Inspector I Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years of experience in construction inspection, civil construction, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, specifications, and public works standards.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and survey data.
  • Ability to document field activity and maintain accurate inspection records and reports.
  • Familiarity with construction safety practices, including OSHA standards and job site hazard awareness.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) and construction-related software (e.g., Bluebeam, Adobe Pro).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations related to quantities, dimensions, and project progress.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Relevant certifications such as OSHA 10, traffic control, flagging, erosion control, or general construction inspection are preferred.
