Backend Tech Lead – Wagtail
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Backend Tech Lead to support a fast-paced, modern web platform build powered by a component-driven content management system. This individual will play a pivotal role in architecting scalable backend solutions, collaborating cross-functionally, and delivering robust, high-performance applications within a dynamic and agile environment.

This role is fully remote.

Backend Tech Lead Responsibilities

• Lead backend development efforts for a content-driven web platform, ensuring scalable, maintainable, and high-performing architecture.
• Design and extend core CMS functionality, including customization of content models, rendering logic, and administrative configurations.
• Develop and manage complex content structures that support flexible, component-based frontend experiences.
• Partner closely with frontend engineers to enable advanced UI patterns through reusable components and templating strategies.
• Oversee deployment processes and infrastructure within a cloud-based environment, ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Drive technical decision-making, proactively identifying risks and implementing effective solutions.
• Contribute to sprint planning, execution, and delivery within a fast-moving, agile development cycle.

Backend Tech Lead Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience, with strong proficiency in Python and modern web frameworks such as Django.
• Hands-on experience working with Wagtail CMS, including extending core functionality and customizing content structures.
• Deep understanding of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.
• Experience deploying and managing applications within cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (e.g., App Engine, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage).
• Strong experience building and supporting component-driven or headless CMS architectures.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with frontend teams on integrated, full-stack solutions.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in a technical lead or senior engineering capacity.

Compensation: $65-$80/hr. (DOE)
