Azure Functions Developer (Python)
Our client is seeking a Azure Functions Developer (Python) to modernize a business-critical document automation process that currently runs from a single workstation. This hands-on role involves taking a set of undocumented legacy scripts and rebuilding them as a secure, cloud-native solution on Microsoft Azure. You will work closely with internal IT leadership and a subject matter expert to turn existing business logic into a reliable, scalable service.
This short-term contract role is on-site in Portland, Oregon.
Azure Functions Developer (Python) Responsibilities
- Re-architect and rebuild existing Python scripts into a modular, production-grade serverless solution using Azure Functions.
- Review the legacy codebase, reverse engineer undocumented business rules, and validate them with stakeholders before building.
- Replace local file dependencies with Azure Blob Storage, and design event-driven workflows that run without manual intervention.
- Implement secure authentication and secrets management using Entra ID, Managed Identities, Service Principals, and Azure Key Vault.
- Integrate Salesforce data through a governed, authenticated connection to replace manual data exports.
- Automate document uploads to SharePoint Online using the Microsoft Graph API.
- Consolidate duplicated code paths into shared, parameterized logic to simplify long-term maintenance.
- Build structured logging, error handling, monitoring, and alerting with Azure Monitor and Application Insights.
- Ensure sensitive client data is encrypted and accessible only to approved roles and service identities.
- Create architecture diagrams, runbooks, and operational documentation, and lead knowledge transfer sessions with the IT team.
Azure Functions Developer (Python) Qualifications
- Strong Python development experience, including refactoring legacy scripts into testable, maintainable code.
- Proven experience building and deploying serverless solutions on Azure, including Azure Functions, Blob Storage, Key Vault, and Azure DevOps.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Graph API, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft 365 environments.
- Working knowledge of Entra ID (Azure AD), Managed Identities, and secure service-to-service authentication.
- Experience with API integration, error handling, and application monitoring using Azure Monitor and Application Insights.
- Ability to work independently with undocumented systems, gather requirements, and communicate clearly with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience handling sensitive financial or PII data under least-privilege security practices.
- Strong documentation skills, including architecture diagrams and runbooks.
- Preferred: experience with Salesforce Financial Services Cloud, Azure Logic Apps, PDF or tax document automation, and data governance.
- Preferred: background in financial services or wealth management, including SEC- or FINRA-regulated environments.
