Assistant Controller
Our client is seeking an Assistant Controller who combines strong technical accounting expertise with confident leadership and sound judgment. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in deadline-driven environments, communicates effectively across teams, and proactively improves processes. The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity, adaptability, and the ability to balance independent work with collaborative partnership.
This role is onsite in Houston, Texas.
Assistant Controller Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger activity, accounts payable, fixed assets, and cash processes.
- Lead and manage the month-end close cycle, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to reporting timelines.
- Own and execute key internal controls and compliance activities, including SOX-related processes across multiple accounting areas.
- Prepare and review financial analyses, including variance reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, and account reviews.
- Mentor and support accounting staff, providing guidance, performance feedback, and development opportunities.
Assistant Controller Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related business discipline required. Advanced degree or CPA preferred.
- 8 or more years of progressive accounting experience, including at least three years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and publicly traded company accounting practices.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally, solve problems independently, and drive process improvements.
Salary: $124K-$150K/year. (DOE)
