Controller
Our dynamic non-profit client is seeking a collaborative and hands-on Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations, in partnership with the CFO. This role is ideal for an approachable leader who thrives in a service-oriented environment, values cross-department collaboration, and enjoys working for an organization with a fun culture and commitment to developing and growing their staff.

This role is onsite in SE Portland.

Controller Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting operations, including month-end close, financial statement preparation, and GAAP-compliant reporting to leadership.
  • Oversee payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing while collaborating with department leaders to support budget management and financial transparency.
  • Supervise and mentor 3–4 staff members while reviewing work for accuracy, quality control, and adherence to internal controls.
  • Partner with the CFO to support annual budgeting, financial planning, and strategic decision-making for the organization.
  • Coordinate and manage annual audits while serving as the primary liaison with external auditors.

Controller Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of manager-level accounting experience within a non-profit, senior living, healthcare, or property management organization.
  • At least 3 years of direct supervisory experience supervising and mentoring accounting team members.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • ERP experience with Yardi and/or Sage Intacct highly preferred.

Preferred:

  • CPA or CMA certification.
  • Experience with property management, construction, or bond accounting environments.

Salary: $130K-145K/year. (DOE)
