Procurement Specialist (Category Buyer)
Our client is seeking a Procurement Specialist (Category Buyer) to provide tactical sourcing and category support within a structured procurement environment. This role bridges strategic category planning and day-to-day execution by leading sourcing events, negotiating commercial terms, and coordinating supplier relationships. The ideal candidate brings solid procurement experience, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across internal stakeholder groups.

This role is a hybrid model in Portland, Oregon.

Responsibilities

• Lead mid-level sourcing initiatives, including preparation and execution of RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs.
• Develop bid documentation, analyze supplier proposals, and facilitate evaluation processes.
• Negotiate pricing, contract terms, and service agreements within assigned categories.
• Draft, review, and administer contracts, renewals, amendments, and terminations.
• Monitor contract timelines to ensure renewals and documentation remain audit-ready.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for suppliers on tactical matters, performance tracking, and issue resolution.
• Support supplier onboarding and ensure compliance with internal governance standards.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to define requirements, establish timelines, and align sourcing strategies with business objectives.
• Apply procurement best practices and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
• Ensure compliance with procurement policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• 2–3 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, contract management, or category support roles.
• Demonstrated experience leading RFx events and negotiating contracts for mid-complexity categories.
• Proficiency with procurement and ERP systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, SharePoint, document management tools).
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate market conditions and supplier performance.
• Effective negotiation and influencing skills.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and procurement platforms.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Adaptable and responsive to changing priorities.

Preferred

• Professional certifications such as CPSM, CIPS, or related procurement credentials.
• Experience supporting regulated or enterprise-level procurement environments.
• Comfort presenting sourcing outcomes and recommendations to stakeholders.

Compensation: Up to $36.44/hr. (DOE)
