Color Designer (Footwear)
Our client is seeking a Color Designer (Footwear) who combines strong creative instincts with disciplined execution and thrives in a dynamic, fast-moving product environment. This role centers on developing and delivering compelling color solutions while partnering closely with cross-functional teams to ensure design intent, feasibility, and market relevance. The ideal candidate is both process-driven and highly adaptable, with a deep understanding of color application across materials and product lifecycles.
This role is a hybrid model in Los Angeles, California.
Color Designer (Footwear) Responsibilities
- Drive the planning, development, and execution of color concepts across footwear product lines, ensuring alignment with seasonal direction and consumer insights.
- Create innovative, commercially viable color solutions informed by market trends, lifestyle influences, and competitive landscape analysis.
- Partner with design, product, development, and materials stakeholders to ensure color achievability and accurate execution across diverse substrates.
- Review product samples, identify refinements, and clearly communicate updates to maintain design integrity and production accuracy.
- Maintain ownership of color timelines, key milestones, and deliverables to support timely product launches.
- Develop and refine visual assets including line art, color layouts, and presentation materials that communicate color strategy effectively.
- Contribute to broader color direction discussions, seasonal narratives, and merchandising stories across categories or initiatives.
- Apply consumer-centric thinking to enhance product appeal, ensuring color decisions resonate with target audiences and usage contexts.
- Support cross-functional collaboration by documenting decisions, tracking changes, and ensuring clarity throughout the design and production process.
- Share expertise and contribute to team capability through knowledge exchange, mentorship, and participation in design reviews.
Color Designer (Footwear) Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of directly relevant color design or product design experience.
- Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, with demonstrated ability to produce professional design and presentation assets.
- Experience working within fast-paced fashion, product, or consumer goods environments requiring speed, adaptability, and attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of color feasibility, material behavior, and execution considerations across multiple product substrates.
- Familiarity with structured product creation or footwear development workflows.
- Ability to balance creative exploration with process discipline and evolving business priorities.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with comfort working across multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred:
- Footwear or performance product experience within large-scale consumer brands.
- Deep knowledge of textiles, materials, and color application techniques.
- Exposure to digital product systems, asset management platforms, or design workflow tools.
- Technical design or product creation experience supporting development and manufacturing.
- Experience in startup or highly agile business environments.
- Background spanning both established global brands and trend-driven or fashion-forward organizations.
Compensation: Up to $50/hr. (DOE)
