Application Developer
Our client is seeking motivated Application Developers to join a collaborative development team supporting business-critical systems. This opportunity is well suited for developers with strong SQL and JavaScript fundamentals who are interested in expanding their skills into IBM i / RPGLE within a production environment. The role blends modernization efforts with ongoing enhancement of existing applications and services.

This role is a hybrid model in Salem, Oregon.

Application Developer Responsibilities

• Develop working proficiency in RPGLE (IBM i RPG) through hands-on development, mentorship, and structured learning opportunities.
• Maintain, enhance, and improve existing RPGLE programs supporting core business functions.
• Design, write, and optimize SQL queries, including data analysis and database interaction.
• Contribute to the design and development of APIs that connect modern applications with established systems.
• Support development of modern web applications and user interfaces using JavaScript-based technologies.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to clarify requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, testing activities, and technical documentation.
• Apply development best practices with emphasis on performance, security, and long-term maintainability.

Application Developer Qualifications

• Professional experience writing SQL queries and working with relational databases.
• Experience with JavaScript development; exposure to Node.js and/or modern UI frameworks is highly valued.
• Solid understanding of core programming concepts and software development principles.
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new technologies, particularly RPGLE and IBM i environments.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Attention to detail and commitment to producing reliable, maintainable code.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team setting.

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or comparable practical experience.
• Exposure to API or service-based architectures (REST, JSON, etc.).
• Experience working with or modernizing existing codebases.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
• Comfort working within enterprise or business-critical application environments.
• Experience navigating mixed legacy and modern technology stacks.

Salary: $110K-$130K/year. (DOE)
