Apparel Technical Designer
Our client is seeking an experienced Apparel Technical Designer to support performance-focused apparel programs through advanced pattern development, fit execution, and garment construction. This role is highly technical in nature and is responsible for translating design concepts into precise patterns and technical documentation used to manufacture functional athletic apparel. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on expertise in pattern creation and adjustment and operates as a technical authority rather than a creative or visual designer.
This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.
Apparel Technical Designer Responsibilities
- Develop technical garment patterns from designer sketches, including building patterns from scratch and modifying existing patterns to achieve accurate fit, function, and performance.
- Lead fit development by evaluating samples, identifying construction or fit issues, and executing pattern corrections to support mobility, comfort, and durability.
- Apply advanced knowledge of knit garment construction to performance silhouettes, with flexibility to work with woven materials when required.
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including measurements, construction details, and pattern specifications used by manufacturing partners.
- Partner cross-functionally with design, development, and functional stakeholders to ensure technical execution aligns with performance intent.
- Support multiple product categories within a fast-paced, performance-driven apparel environment.
- Record pattern changes, fit comments, and construction updates using web-based PLM or similar systems to ensure clear documentation and version control.
Apparel Technical Designer Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as an Apparel Technical Designer with a strong focus on pattern making and pattern adjustments.
- Proven ability to create technical garment patterns from scratch based on design sketches, as well as refine existing patterns.
- 5+ years of experience supporting performance or athletic apparel with a strong understanding of functional fit and construction.
- Advanced knowledge of knit garment construction; experience with woven materials is a plus.
- Demonstrated expertise in producing technical drawings, measurements, and construction documentation used to manufacture garments.
- Portfolio that clearly illustrates pattern development, fit complexity, and technical problem-solving.
- Experience working in PLM or similar web-based systems for documenting fit feedback and pattern changes.
- Exposure to performance wear, outerwear, or structured garments is preferred.
- Ability to engage professionally in functional or product-facing working sessions when required.
