Lead Technical Apparel Designer (Pattern & Sample Engineering)
Our client is seeking a highly hands-on Lead Technical Apparel Designer to support the creation and refinement of premium apparel through advanced patternmaking and sample construction. This role is ideal for a technically driven apparel expert who thrives in a studio environment, enjoys translating creative vision into physical product, and can move fluidly between digital tools and sewing machines. The ideal candidate brings precision, collaboration, and a builder’s mindset to every stage of product development.

This role is fully onsite in Beaverton, Oregon.

Lead Technical Apparel Designer Responsibilities

• Engineer, refine, and execute garment patterns that align with design intent, fit standards, and construction requirements.
• Produce and assemble physical samples through cutting, sewing, embroidery, and finishing to validate product concepts.
• Translate design direction into functional patterns, offering technical solutions that preserve aesthetics while improving build quality.
• Collaborate closely with design, technical, and product teams to support fit, construction, and development milestones.
• Maintain accurate documentation, patterns, and SOPs to ensure consistency and repeatability across sample builds.

Lead Technical Apparel Designer – Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in apparel design, textile science, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on product creation experience.
• 5–10 years of advanced patternmaking and sample-sewing experience within an apparel development environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work directly with sewing and embroidery equipment in a hands-on studio setting.
• Proficiency with Optitex or similar 3D/2D pattern systems, flat patterning, and Adobe Illustrator.
• Strong technical communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.

Compensation: Up to $55/hr. (DOE)
